BUMPER
Bumper came to us as a 7month old Husky that was showing signs of ataxia (shaking and not able to walk without falling). She came from a loving younger couple that had rescued her as a puppy thinking that she was a normal new family member, within a few weeks Bumper started stumbling a lot, they though she was just clumsy, but eventually they needed to take her to a veterinarian to see what was going on with this sweet puppy. Sadly, she was diagnosed with Ataxia and she would never recover. This young couple did not have the ability to take care of Bumpers special needs, they contacted Angel's Eyes Sanctuary and we decided to take Bumper into our home.
Thank goodness we have a naturopathic doctor friend that has helped with several of our other dogs, Sarah happened to have a veterinarian friend back east that specializes with dogs with this kind of disorders, so we sent her all the information for Bumper. In the meantime, Bumper started having seizures and was getting less mobile, sadly we got a new diagnosis Alaskan Husky
Encephalopathy, this is a fatal disease and totally devastating to us. Bumper is taking phenobarbital for her seizers and has only had 1 seizer since starting the medication in December.
We have made the decision to continue with Bumpers care as long as she is happy and eating and she is so HAPPY, she loves playing with the other dogs and lounging in the sun under her favorite tree in the yard. Bumper also had a wheelchair donated to help her to be a bit more mobile and she is getting better at maneuvering her chair every time she uses it.
We will love and support Bumper for as long as we feel she is enjoying life.
